Bolinas Road Slide Repair at milepost 1.16
Description
This is a completed project. You are in the Archived Projects section of the website. Active projects can be found on the Projects webpage.
Overview
The March 2023 storms triggered multiple landslides and roadway damage along Bolinas Road. The damaged locations have been receiving repairs in order of urgency. The road is the sole route for hundreds of homes and provides critical access for wildland firefighting. The road is also the only way to reach water treatment facilities that supply drinking water for one-third of Marin Water’s customers, approximately 90,000 residents.
A slide caused by the storms forced the closure of the eastbound lane of Bolinas Road at milepost 1.16. The slide repair project at milepost 1.16 included a retaining wall, guardrailing, cable railing, and an asphalt drainage dike.
Funding
The $980,000 project was covered by the County's Road & Bridge fund, and approximately 88% is expected to be reimbursed by the Federal Highway Administration's Emergency Repair Program.
Traffic impacts
Construction work hours were weekdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. with traffic control measures in place. For the duration of the project, traffic flowed through a single lane with alternating two-way traffic. Traffic delays were limited to no more than seven minutes.
