Fairfax-Bolinas Road in West Marin at milepost 5.73 (approximately 2 miles west of Azalea Hill) is single-lane access with two-way traffic controlled through one lane. This condition is at the construction zone only and will remain in place until project is completed. See project webpage for more details. Thank you for your patience while this project progresses.

Fairfax Bolinas Road Repairs at milepost 5.73

Description

The project will reconstruct approximately 120 feet of roadway where a slide has reduced the structural integrity of Fairfax-Bolinas Road near milepost 5.73. The effort will include roadway repair, subsurface drainage, asphalt resurfacing, shoulder backing and roadway striping. To improve integrity and safety of the roadway, the project will also be making roadway upgrades at the culvert near milepost 5.73. The associated drainage improvements require permitting from regulatory agencies.

Traffic impacts

To accommodate the first 3 weeks of construction, Fairfax-Bolinas Road will be fully closed from Azalea Hill to Ridgecrest. The section is much more rural stretch of the road than the rest of Fairfax-Bolinas Road. After the initial road closure for 3 weeks, the roadway will operate on single-lane access with controlled two-way traffic as the retaining wall is constructed at milepost 5.73.

The duration of the project is still unknown and will not be clear until additional drilling has been conducted during the full closure phase. During both the full closure and single-lane phases, active emergency service vehicles will be granted access at all times, as will Marin Water work vehicles.
