"I became an engineer because I love solving problems. I became a public servant to make a difference. I became a director because I enjoy combining people and resources to create something better. I believe that when times are bad, you lead from the front and buffer staff from the turbulence and hopefully provide some calm. When times are good, you lead from the back, allowing staff to shine while providing guidance and mentorship. Always encourage people to become the best they can be. When I’m not working, I love reading, playing my guitar, songwriting, tinkering or cycling with my wife Michelle."

"My public service career began in 1988 with the California State Assembly. I’ve followed a diverse path from there, working with many agencies in a variety of positions. My ongoing desire to make a difference for the people and communities I serve has led me here. Working in service to preserve our natural environment and maintain safe, vibrant communities is an incredible thing to be a part of. I’ve learned that leadership isn’t about accolades, rather about character, trust and career development.  Outside the office, I enjoy working on my 1949 International Truck, running, camping, hiking and spending time with my best friend Dexter, a 90lb lab/terrier filled with endless joy."

“A life spent making mistakes is not only more honorable, but more useful than a life spent doing nothing.”  -- George Bernard Shaw

"In 2014, following a career in the aerospace industry, I joined the County of Marin and had the pleasure of working at two other departments before finding my home at Public Works. I like empowering, enabling, and providing teams with strategic leadership, encouraging them to always seek improvements and deliver results. I enjoy the supportive community in Public Works, where collaboration on common goals is key to our culture. Driven by integrity, courage, resiliency, self-respect, and respect for others, I continually work to ensure that our department is successful. When I am not working, I love cooking, reading, working out, traveling, and hanging out with my family."

"After working in the Bay Area in the private sector, marriage brought me to Marin County.  I joined Public Works in 2001 and I am proud to be a part of the diverse services we deliver to the people of Marin, supporting healthy, safe and sustainable communities. I am passionate about tackling world problems that affect us at a local level, such as climate change, disaster preparedness, infrastructure investments, affordable housing and racial equity.  For me, creating a supportive work environment for our staff is paramount, which is something I’ve learned through the unparalleled support of my husband. When I’m not wearing my professional hat, you can find me enjoying the wonders of Marin alongside my husband as we raise our three wonderful children."

"We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them."  -- Albert Einstein

"After relocating to the Bay Area from the Midwest in 2006, I began my engineering career working for the California Department of Transportation Construction Division in Marin County. Managing construction projects on the State Highway System taught me how to navigate through challenges under pressure, helped me to become a better project engineer, and made me fall in love with the diverse and unsurpassed beauty of Marin County. In 2017, I transitioned from state to local government to become the City Engineer and eventually the Public Works Director for the City of Novato, where I enjoyed engaging with residents, partner agencies, and a dedicated team of employees to solve complex problems and enhance the quality of life in the city. It’s been an honor and a pleasure to join the Marin County Public Works Executive Team, and I look forward to continuing to serve the Marin community through the development and delivery of quality projects and programs. When I am not at work, I enjoy cheering on my two sons at their soccer and flag football games."
